VandenBoorn, Johnston star in Kings debut Nolan VandenBoorn and Brendan Johnston didn't waste any time making an impact with the Dresden Kings. VandenBoorn had a hat trick and Johnston made 29 saves Friday in a 5-2 win over the Amherstburg Admirals in the Provincial Junior Hockey League's Stobbs Division. The two 20-year-olds were acquired Thursday from the Chatham Maroons. The Mooretown Flags and Lakeshore Canadiens tied 2-2 in Friday's other game. They share first place with 4-0-1 records. At Dresden, Lucas Spence and Brantly Kuipers also scored for the Kings (3-2-0-0) in front of 355 fans at Lambton-Kent Memorial Arena. David Cooke of the Admirals scored the only first-period, but the Kings struck back with four in the second. Ryan Alexander scored for the Admirals (1-3-0-1) in the third before VandenBoorn completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal. The Kings will visit the Blenheim Blades on Sunday at 7 p.m. They'll host the Flags next Friday at 7:30 p.m. At Lakeshore, Steven Sartor and Connor Rosaasen scored for the Canadiens.
